A decoction of the underground parts of the plant is drunk by the Kubeo people of northwestern Amazonia to counteract the effects of snakebite (10). An undetermined species, very similar to Calathea cyclophora, is also known as "warimbo" in Surinam Sranan, and as "po-po" to the Surinam Tirio, who use a decoction of its boiled leaves to wash machete cuts
